The Costa Blanca, the "white coast" is named after the white sandy beaches with cliffs that rise steeply from the sea. Very nice sea villages, bays, plenty of sun and very pleasant temperatures.
The inland is green, hilly, valleys, vinyards, almond and olive trees and many orange plantations.
The terraces in the valleys and on the mountain slopes have been made by the Moors over 500 years ago.
At the base of Monte Pego there are many plantations of orange trees and even rice fields. The Bomba rice that is cultivated here is a famous ingredient for paella.
Nearby is the natural park La Marjal, practically at your door step and it is worth while to visit. More information at the Pego tourist office (second roundabout at your left hand when you enter Pego). La Marjal is marsh land with special vegetation and rare bird species.
Three small rivers run through the park and in summer time you can hire a boat to discover it all. Further inland the mountains are rough, with small roads, but easy to drive.
